Proverbs 11:2 AMP ‘When pride comes [boiling up with an arrogant attitude of self-importance], then come dishonor and shame, But with the humble [the teachable who have been chiseled by trial and who have learned to walk humbly with God] there is wisdom and soundness of mind. ‘
God hates pride. Pride can be defined as an “exaggerated attitude of arrogance or self-importance, or self-aggrandizement”. You think of yourself more highly that you ought to and with that, you are usually looking down upon or trying to marginalize others. Pride can creep into anyone’s life at any time, sometimes by stealth. The problem occurs when we refuse to make adjustments in that area by renouncing pride and humbling ourselves before God. We somehow think we are entitled to behave this way.
Conversely, do not mistake the genuine confidence of others for pride. Ever met people who are bent on knocking you down a notch? They have tasked themselves with that job out pride and a spirit of error that they are operating in. Avoid these types of people at all costs. God will bring exposure to certain things so that they can be dealt with because He “reveals to redeem”, but self-appointed abusers would never be chosen to execute that type of assignment, those ones who want to “teach you a lesson”. There is no redemptive quality in that which seeks to only embarrass or humiliate others just because they irritate you or because you think they deserve it. It is always a good thing to do periodic self-assessment and make adjustments before God has to make them for you. It is much less painful that way.
Pray these prayers and declarations out loud.
FATHER IN THE NAME OF JESUS:
- I repent for operating in pride and I ask that you forgive me for doing so.
- I desire to walk humbly before you all the days of my life.
- Your word says that pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall, and I want to experience neither of them. (Proverbs 16:18 AMP)
- I choose a humble spirit in order that I may obtain honor. (Proverbs 29:23 AMP)
- Lord, I renounce all false humility and flawed humility based on how others would define it.
- I renounce pride because I desire that You would answer me and not reject me when I call out to you. (Job 35:12 AMP)
- Like you Lord, I hate pride, arrogance, evil ways, and the perverted mouth and I choose to walk in none of these things. (Proverbs 8:13 AMP)
- I destroy sophisticated arguments and every exalted, proud thing that sets itself up against the obedience of God in my life, and I take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5 AMP)
- Father, open my ears and seal their instruction to turn me aside from inappropriate conduct and keep me from pride. (Job 33:16-17 AMP)
- I choose to be just like Jesus and take the form of a servant. I stoop low so that you can exalt me to a place of honor at the appropriate time. (Philippians 2:11-9 AMPC)
Philippians 2:3-4 AMPC ‘ Do nothing from factional motives [through contentiousness, strife, selfishness, or for unworthy ends] or prompted by conceit and empty arrogance. Instead, in the true spirit of humility (lowliness of mind) let each regard the others as better than and superior to himself [thinking more highly of one another than you do of yourselves]. Let each of you esteem and look upon and be concerned for not [merely] his own interests, but also each for the interests of others.’
