Romans 1:28 KJV ‘And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; ‘
God has been speaking a lot lately concerning the reprobate mind. A reprobate mind occurs when a person has allowed their mind to become morally corrupted, depraved, or warped. This type of person has no desire to change or make adjustments that would reverse their condition and they are usually headlong involved in behaviors that are in direct contradiction with God’s Word. When someone continually ignores God’s warnings and correction, He will allow their minds to become overtaken in their sins, perversions, and inappropriate proclivities. You probably know people like this. Some hide, some don’t, but usually these people are so consumed in their reprobation that it spills out into their everyday life and it is not difficult to notice. These people’s conditions become worse and worse but that is usually still not a deterrent for them.
Titus 1:15 AMPC ‘ To the pure [in heart and conscience] all things are pure, but to the defiled and corrupt and unbelieving nothing is pure; their very minds and consciences are defiled, polluted.’
Once God gives a person over to a reprobate mind, can they recover? If a person is given over to the point of being a reprobate, they are totally consumed in their sins, have rejected God on all levels and have exchanged the truth for a lie. They are beyond the point of being able to see truth. If it were possible to return it would take a very radical act for them to do so. From the description below, it suggests that if you allow yourself to get to this point that your mind will be too far-gone, and you won’t have any desire or inclination for repentance. It would be too late for you.
Romans 1:28-32 AMP And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God or consider Him worth knowing [as their Creator], God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do things which are improper and repulsive, until they were filled (permeated, saturated) with every kind of unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice and mean-spiritedness. They are gossips [spreading rumors], slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors [of new forms] of evil, disobedient and disrespectful to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful [without pity]. Although they know God’s righteous decree and His judgment, that those who do such things deserve death, yet they not only do them, but they even [enthusiastically] approve and tolerate others who practice them.
If you are currently involved in sin cycles and find yourself being pulled in deeper and deeper, I would suggest making a serious course correction now while you have the mental capacity to recognize that a problem actually exists. You can seek God, repent from the behaviors, and make adjustments in line with His Word. Don’t allow things to become so distorted that God has no choice but to turn you over to a reprobate state.
2 Peter 3:9 AMPC ‘ The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.’
