Romans 2:11 AMP ‘For God shows no partiality [no arbitrary favoritism; with Him one person is not more important than another]. ‘
God is an ‘equal opportunity God’ and He does not play favorites. If something is available for one, it is available for all. This is one reason why the concepts of jealousy and competition with others can be so baffling. With whom are you competing? Why have you chosen that person or group of people as the standard by which to measure your success? Why does the manifestation of your success need to look similar to that of other people in order for you to feel fulfilled? People’s standards of success are ever-changing: this wristwatch, this car, this country club membership, this vacation destination. But what happens when people’s minds and perceptions change about what is hot and what is not as they inevitably do? Now you are stuck in a cycle of people-pleasing in order to feel accepted as well as a cycle of unhealthy competition which almost always encompasses jealousy.
James 4:2 AMPC ‘ You are jealous and covet [what others have] and your desires go unfulfilled; [so] you become murderers. [To hate is to murder as far as your hearts are concerned.] You burn with envy and anger and are not able to obtain [the gratification, the contentment, and the happiness that you seek], so you fight and war. You do not have, because you do not ask. [I John 3:15.]’
What God does for one person He will do for another. Did you ever take the time to ask Him for what you desire? What is your motive for asking? Motives are important and making requests based on ‘keeping up with the Jones’ are sure to remain as unfilled orders. You might be asking for the same BMW that Jane has but maybe God wanted you to have the Rolls Royce instead. In the end, what have you really accomplished? Now we have two people who look like Jane, walk like Jane, talk like Jane, and drive what Jane drives. God fashioned us all specifically and uniquely and never intended us to be clones of one another.
Galatians 1:10 AMPC ‘ Now am I trying to win the favor of men, or of God? Do I seek to please men? If I were still seeking popularity with men, I should not be a bond servant of Christ (the Messiah).’
