The Deception of Divination

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 NKJV  ‘There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you.’

Divination is strictly forbidden in the Bible. Divination is the practice of illegally accessing the spirit realm in an attempt to foresee or foretell future events, or the attempt to discover hidden knowledge. It is just one of many forms of sorcery used by agents of the kingdom of darkness, Satan’s kingdom. Those who do this are considered to be false prophets, even if something they say does come true. They have no connection to God and do not receive their information from God. Notice in the book of Acts how the slave girl who followed Paul and Silas around was telling the truth, but she was possessed by a spirit of divination. She was announcing them publicly, against their will until Paul bound up the spirit and cast it out of her. (Acts 16:16-19 NKJV) The information was true, but it was causing trouble for them. There are many reasons why utilizing divination is wrong:

  1. God says it is an abomination to him.
  2. You will replace God with the person performing the divination. They will in essence become your god. You will become ensnared and always be looking for a ‘hit’ from them instead of seeking the one who knows what He has written in his book regarding all of the days of your life. What happens when they become angry or annoyed with you, or you can’t pay them? Will they turn against you? Are they going to attempt to spiritually or emotionally manipulate you with the information? Probably.
  3. Only God knows the full plans He has for your life. No diviner has all of the information concerning your life or destiny and they do not know the mind of God.
  4. Satan is not trustworthy. He is a deceiver. He will always mix a little truth inside of a lie.
  5. If you receive negative information from a diviner regarding your life it will most likely inspire a lingering fear and dread inside of you. It is never God’s intention for his children to live in fear.
  6. Satan is a thief and his agenda is always to steal, kill, and destroy. Divination is a tool to lure you in so that he can have access to your life to do just that; to steal, kill, and destroy.
  7. Divination ‘pay to play’ is a form of spiritual and financial harlotry as far as God is concerned, prostitution. (Hosea 4:12 AMPC)

John 8:44 NKJV  ‘You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.’

The deception in these end times will become greater and greater. Don’t open the door for the enemy and give him licensure for deception in your life. The Bible states that ‘false Christs and false prophets will arise, and they will show great signs and wonders so as to deceive and lead astray, if possible, even the elect (God’s chosen ones).’ (Matthew 24:24 KJV) If you are following diviners, how are you going to be able to tell the difference between false prophets and false Christs who are leading you down a path of destruction, or the real Christ and real prophets who are leading you down the path of life? Did you notice it says they will even try to lead good Christian folks awry, God’s chosen ones, if they fall for the deception. Don’t fall for the deception. Don’t open the door for diviners or any practitioner of the occult. Seek God and the Holy Spirit for your information. God is not a God of the dead, but of the living. Do not seek the dead on behalf of the living. (Isaiah 8:19 NKJV)

Jeremiah 29:11 ‘For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’
